PROFILE

A brief history of my career in medical communications

  • I began my scientific career at the University of Bath, obtaining a BSc (Hons) 2/i in Biochemistry.
  • I later gained a DPhil in Virology from the University of Oxford and carried out post-doctoral research into connective tissue disease at the same institution.
  • In 1997, I became a trainee writer in a medical communications agency, progressing to Principal Medical Writer, leading several accounts and responsible for training new recruits.
  • After 9 years in the agency world, I became a freelance medical writer.
  • In 2018, I decided to come back in-house, where I developed three different training programmes for writers at various stages of their careers.
  • I had come full circle!
