A brief history of my career in medical communications

  • I began my scientific career at the University of Bath, obtaining a BSc (Hons) 2/i in Biochemistry.
  • I later gained a DPhil in Virology from the University of Oxford and carried out post-doctoral research into connective tissue disease at the same institution.
  • In 1997, I became a trainee writer in a medical communications agency.
  • At the end of my time in the agency world, I was a principal medical writer, leading several accounts and responsible for training new recruits – I had come full circle! However, writing is my key strength and the majority of my time was devoted to it.
  • Today, I am a freelance writer using my experience and enthusiasm to deliver high-quality editorial projects.
  • I am also a member of the European Medical Writers Association (EMWA).
